Natural Geometry

I've been exploring the world of natural geometry lately. It's amazing what sort of patterns occur in the natural anatomy of plants. The organization within the structures is deliberate, perfect, and completely blows my mind.

Lichens

Lichens are so beautiful, and give me so much joy to look at. They are so complex, organized yet unruly. The colors they splatter on rocks and trees always adds a beautiful depth to the already beautiful macro landscape. I can't wait to take pictures of lichens in the boundary waters.

Some clever person was able to crochet little doilies in the likeness of lichens!

I love this photo involving different fabrics and speckles of lichens throughout.

That color, though!

These are not my photos, of course. I hope to produce some of my own soon and get them up here. For now, take a look at what Flickr has to offer regarding the beauty of lichens.

An adventure is coming.

My brother called me the other day to ask if he should pull the trigger and reserve some dates in early June for our boundary waters trip. So there's a date! Nothing but canoing, hiking, and serenity. I cannot express how excited I am. I get to spend time with my brothers, away from everything, with nothing around us but untouched wilderness. It's going to be an amazing experience. I ordered a button cell battery for my Minolta film camera, and will be taking as many pictures as I can. I don't want to deal with anything electronic (except lamps, of course) during the trip. I know that the experience will be extremely cleansing, and I'm looking forward to any challenges the trip has to offer.

Here's a Monet I've never seen before.

I absolutely love the colors, but I don't think I've ever seen a Monet painting that didn't harmonize color in a less than magical way. And that reflection, just stunning.
